The "SLOW MONEY" Principles
|
We must learn to invest as if food, farms, and fertility
matter. We must connect investors to the places where they
live, creating vital relationships and new sources of capital
for small food enterprises.
The international Slow Money movement exists in order to
enhance food security, food safety, and food access; to
improve nutrition and health; to promote cultural, ecological,
and economic diversity; to create an economy based on
preservation and restoration.
Local food builds a stronger community. When you buy direct
from the farmer, you are re-establishing a time-honored
connection between the eater and the grower. Knowing the
farmers gives you insight into the seasons, the weather, and
the miracle of raising food. In many cases, it gives you
access to a farm where your children and grandchildren can go
to learn about nature and agriculture.
This movement is designed to promote investment in soil
fertility and saving farmland, supporting a new generation of
small and mid-size organic farmers, rebuilding local and
regional food processing and distribution, inproving nutrition,
and otherwise remedying the imbalances of a food system
that is too consolidated, too global, and too industrial.
